Digital Publishing Manager

Role

The Digital Publishing Manager will play a key role in the implementation of ISO’s digital content strategy and the evolution of the XML production workflow.
He-she will coordinate closely with the Production and IT teams to ensure a seamless publishing chain (including back catalogue processing) to deliver International Standards and other deliverables to the highest degree of quality and consistency within agreed deadlines.
The Digital Publishing Manager will leverage their extensive XML knowledge and project management expertise to capture, articulate, and test business requirements that enhance the operational efficiency of the standards development process.
He-she will support the development of ISO’s digital editorial policy (including Coding Guidelines) and help champion the transition to structured content and data-driven decision making across the ISO community.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor and ensure ISO’s XML-based publication chain toolset stability and efficiency in close coordination with the Production and IT teams
  • Troubleshoot ISO’s XML-based publication chain production
  • Improve end-user usability of ISO’s XML-based publication chain toolset
  • Ensure ISO’s XML-based publication chain toolset is well documented and ISO/CS staff properly trained
  • Proactively assess and plan future upgrades of ISO’s XML-based publication chain toolset to ensure timely and seamless implementations
  • Act as focal point (e.g. manage relationships/contracts, request new features, follow-up on existing bugs) with ISO’s XML-based publication chain toolset third-party providers
  • Identify how interoperable XML-based standards can help ISO and its members provide innovative products and services
  • Participate in international efforts to develop common formats for exchanging standards content (NISO Standards Tag Suite)
  • Implement NISO STS-compatible XML as the exchange format for standards content between ISO and its members and partners, and ensure coding guidelines are maintained
  • Coordinate within the Standards and Technical Policy (STP) units as well as with other ISO Central Secretariat units (e.g. Marketing and Sales, Information Technology…) on all matters concerning XML-based standards

Report to: Head of Publishing

Qualification and Experience

  • 5-8 years project management practice and experience; management of quality control strategy
  • Experience in NLM, JATS; BITS, NISO tag suites/sets
  • Strong technical experience in the production of XML-based products and services
  • Ability of developing, authoring and editing projects
  • Knowledge of MATHML and CALS Table Model
  • University-level education
  • Fluent in English. Fluency in French and familiarity with other languages is a strong asset
