Editorial Policy Manager

Role

The Editorial Policy Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing editorial policy and maintaining drafting resources. They will play a key role in updating our rules and practice to enhance the production flow of digital standards, from legacy portfolio transformation to disruptive new technologies and services.
They communicate with external parties on issues related to editorial policy and participate in the development and deployment of training material.
They provide advice on editorial policy for new publishing architecture and tools and participate in their advocacy.

Key responsibilities

Editorial policy and resources

  • Directives and Policies for Digital Publishing
    • Maintenance/revision of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2, including interactions with DMT/JDMT
    • Implementation of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2 in the Production chain
    • Communication and training (internal and external) on the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2
  • Drafting resources
    • Maintenance of drafting resources
    • Facilitating the evolution of drafting practices to support machine-readable standards and the development of new SMART business models
  • Training and related projects
    • Development of training material (Committee Manager training, e-learning modules), in collaboration with the Capacity Building Unit
    • Editorial oversight for new authoring and publishing initiatives
    • Editorial advice on current and future publishing architecture

Change Management

  • Collaboration and communication with external parties
    • Communication with committees on escalated editorial issues and editorial policy
    • Collaboration related to drafting with IEC, CEN and other external organizations (e.g. standards development organizations)
    • Advocacy of new authoring and publishing initiatives
  • Editing practices/quality
    • Editorial oversight of special deliverables
    • Testing of improvements/new authoring, editing, publishing tools
Report to: Head of Publishing

Qualification and Experience

  • 5 years of editorial, policy, or product development experience in the publishing industry, preferably in science publishing
  • University degree or higher in a technical subject
  • Strong editing skills and successful experience in production workflows
  • Excellent command of English, other languages are an asset
  • Excellent project management skills
