Conformity Assessment and Consumer Matters Director


Reporting to the Secretary-General, the Conformity Assessment and Consumer Matters Director is in charge, with the assistance of a small team at the ISO Central Secretariat (ISO/CS), of supporting the following policy committees in ISO:

  • CASCO, the committee on conformity assessment responsible for the development of International Standards for conformity assessment bodies and setting conformity assessment policies; 
  • COPOLCO, the committee for consumers helping consumers benefit from standardization and improving consumer participation in national and international standardization. The committee provides a forum for the exchange of information on the experience of consumer participation. 

Key responsibilities

  • Support the establishment of CASCO and COPOLCO’s strategic plans, aligned with the overall ISO Strategy 2030, and drive their successful implementation 
  • Effectively execute CASCO and COPOLCO work programs, in compliance with ISO/IEC Directives as for the development of standards is concerned
  • Study conformity assessment and consumer matters to identify and evaluate possible new standardization work, and elaborate and submit recommendations to the concerned committee
  • Manage and ensure the proper implementation of CASCO and COPOLCO policies and procedures for the work of these committees
  • Promote the “CASCO Toolbox” and the mutual acceptance of national and international conformity assessment systems
  • Promote the importance of adequate consumer representation in the standards development process at the international and national level
  • Manage and maintain effective relations with external organizations. Liaise with regional initiatives and organizations involved in conformity assessment and consumer matters, and identify possible interactions and strategic issues
  • Support the needs of ISO members in relation to CASCO and COPOLCO
  • Advise ISO Technical Committees and ISO/CS on matters, including technical ones, related to conformity assessment and as well as consumer issues
  • Provide leadership, directions and support to team members, and act as a role model in line with the values of the Organization
  • As a member of ISO/CS Leadership team (LT), provide strategic advice to the Secretary-General and other team members
Report to: Secretary-General

Skills and Experience

  • University degree or equivalent
  • Proven track record at a senior level position in an international environment
  • A good knowledge and understanding of standardization and conformity assessment and/or consumer matters at the national, regional and international levels
  • A good understanding of the role of consumer organizations at the national and international level or the ability to obtain this knowledge
  • Experience in interacting with international trade organizations and other international associations and a sound understanding of their roles in conformity assessment and international trade
  • Role model leader, motivating, supporting and inspiring, showing empathy and capacity to leverage talents and competences
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate and delegate work effectively, work in strict deadlines, manage budgets and resources, and implement organizational policy
  • Ability to negotiate, persuade, build consensus amongst persons from various backgrounds and lead to decisions that are supported by stakeholders
  • Solid project management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and to speak with confidence in public
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Energetic, confident, positive, curious, open and inclusive
  • Proficiency in English (with excellent writing skills), knowledge of French or other languages would be an advantage
